Favourite Summer Reads

It’s day two of the Biannual Biblithon! I am doing quite well with my reading, but what do I normally read in the summer? Today’s blog challenge (as posted by Instagram’s Artemis Star Lite) is to talk about your favourite summer reads.

For most of my life, I tried to read the Harry Potter books on my summer holiday as I had six weeks off and there were seven books. That gave me two weeks for the first three then one week for each of the remain four. I always nearly got there. In addition to this, in the UK libraries do a summer reading challenge where they encourage young people to read six books in six weeks. I often entered but didn’t always win as only books taken from the library counted, and I was reading quite a lot of books not from the library as well.

As a result, I have developed a like for reading fantasy books over the summer, especially ones that I have already read and loved as I get less stressed over the fate of the characters when I know what is coming next. I also like reading a few new books from my library, as I now have the time to go and get books out. During school time, I find it quite hard to make it to the library before it closes. Now though I have all the time in the world, and like to support my local libraries.

For me, my top four series that I recommend reading over the summer are:

  1. The Harry Potter Series (7 books) by J.K. Rowling
  2. The Throne of Glass Series (7 out of 8 books released) by Sarah J. Maas
  3. The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy (3 books) by Laini Taylor
  4. The A Song of Ice and Fire Series ( 5 out of 7 books released, in 7 volumes) by George R.R. Martin
