Children of Blood and Bone Review

A wonderful read from a debut author!

I will admit that it took me a while to get into the plot of this book. While I warmed to the characters instantly, I felt that for the first half of the book that the plot was too close to that of Throne of Glass. After making it halfway through the book, the plot I felt that it began to come into its own for the first time. The world began to sweep me away and I from then on I couldn’t put the book down.

The characters I loved from the beginning, they were their own forces with their own motives and reasoning, it felt so realistic, I still find it hard to believe that they aren’t real people. I miss them already, and it has only been half an hour since I put the book down!

I love some of the duality in the books and the contrast of things as the characters develop and new ideas of explored in the story. I found it intriguing how some of the characters would change opinions on key points and everyone got to see both sides of the coin, allowing for a deeper novel. This theme of change was also represented in a similar way through other details in the book (which I will not include for spoilers) and I appreciated that detail.
