It’s finally happened! YALC have announced which authors are going to be at YALC this year! This is my reaction to who’s going and what I think of their books. Some of these author’s I have never heard of before or never read anything by, so I will be basing a number of my opinions on the synopsis alone. As there are 81 authors going, I will be splitting this post into 3 parts.
Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

My Thoughts
After reading the synopsis of this book, I can say that I am definitely interested in reading it. This book sounds great as it features badass women and mystery. While I don’t normally read a lot of historical fiction, I feel like the vikings are a group that are similar to the fantasy tropes that I like.
Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman

My Thoughts
This book sounds a little too depressing for me. Personally I prefer more uplifting books and as I am not the biggest fan on contemporary works, I think I’ll be giving this a miss.
Shadow Captain by Alastair Reynolds

Synopsis
My Thoughts
This is the second book in a series, and by reading this synopsis for this book I am intrigued, but there are more books that I want to read first. I think I will read this book if I get round to it, but it will not be top of my TBR.
Home Girl by Alex Wheatle

My Thoughts
I think that this book will be thought provoking, so I think I will be adding it to my TBR but probably not at the top as it is contemporary and I prefer fantasy books. Having said that this book would be on the top of the contemporary section of my TBR.
Oh My Gods by Alexandra Sheppard

My Thoughts
I quite like the sound of this book as it is similar to the Percy Jackson book (which I love) judging from the cover it also seems to feature people of colour, which is something I am actively trying to include in my reading list. I am definitely adding this book to my TBR.
Heartstopper Volume 2 by Alice Oseman

My Thoughts
I don’t think I’ll be picking this book up as I am not a big fan of graphic novels (read about my first experience with one here) and am also not a big fan of romance stories.
Every Colour of You by Amelia Mandeville

My Thoughts
As I am not a big fan of neither contemporary fiction or romance (I can sense one coming along), I think I’ll be giving this one a miss.
Tilly and the Bookwanderers by Anna James

My Thoughts
This book sounds quaint and sweet and the sort of thing I would have loved when I was younger, so of course it’s going on the TBR.
Tulip Taylor by Anna Mainwaring
My Thoughts
Unfortunately I can’t seem to find anything about this book online so I have no opinions on it. If you can find anything about it, please let me know in the comments.
The October Man by Ben Aaronavitch

My Thoughts
I’ve recently had this book series recommended to me, so I may give them a go, although this is book 7.5 so I may not read them all before YALC.
No Big Deal by Bethany Rutter

My Thoughts
This book is not for me as it is contemporary and deals with body positivity and issue I fortuanly don’t have problems with (that is not saying that this story is not important though). With so many other books to read, I’m going to give this one a miss.
Viper by Bex Hogan

My Thoughts
This book was already on my TBR, and it is now going further up the list.
The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman

My Thoughts
The sampler for this in scheduled for a few weeks for Sampler Saturday so I’ll be waiting until then to make my opinion.
Jelly by Clare Rees
My Thoughts
I couldn’t find this book on GoodReads so as of yet I have no opinions about it.
Princess in Practice by Connie Glyn

My Thoughts
I think I’ll be giving this one a miss as I’m not one for stories set at a school or the tradition princess idea.
Unstoppable by Dan Freedman

My Thoughts
As I think you’ve gathered by now, I am not one for a contemporary book, though this one grabbed me a little, I might pencil it onto by TBR pending further investigation.
All the Lonely People by David Owen

My Thoughts
As someone who creates online (obviously) this book kind of intrigued me, I think I might add it onto my maybe pile.
The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta

My Thoughts
This book is not for me. It seems to have a lot about the drag scene which is something I am not personally interested in, so I think I’ll give this one a miss.
Bedlam by Derek Landy

My Thoughts
As someone who has never read a skulduggery pleasant book, I’m not particularly interested in book 12, so I’ll not be reading this one.
The Million Pieces of Nina Gill by Emma Smith-Barton

My Thoughts
This book seems to be a contemporary with a large romance plot / subplot so it is not for me.
Eoin Colfer
Having read some of the Artemis Fowl books as a child I am excited to see what he has to say at his talk.
I Will Not be Erased by Gal-dem
My Thoughts
Ironically this book is not on GoodReads but the cover makes me think this will be good, I’ll add it to my TBR.
The Places I’ve Cried in Public by Holly Bourne

My Thoughts
This book isn’t for me as it heavily features romance and I am not a big fan of that.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson.

My Thoughts
I read the sampler of this a few weeks ago, so you can see my thoughts on that there.
