Sampler Saturday: All The Bad Apples

It’s Saturday, and it’s time for me to review another sampler. This week’s choice comes from the Penguin Bingeable Box Set which I received at YALC.

All the Bad Apples by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

Title: All The Bad Apples

Author: Moïra Fowley-Doyle

Publication Date: 1st August 2019

When Deena’s wild and mysterious sister Mandy disappears – presumed dead – her family are heartbroken. But Mandy has always been troubled. It’s just another bad thing to happen to Deena’s family. Only Deena refuses to believe it’s true.

And then the letters start arriving. Letters from Mandy, claiming that their family’s blighted history is not just bad luck or bad decisions – but a curse, handed down through the generations. Mandy has gone in search of the curse’s roots, and now Deena must find her. What they find will heal their family’s rotten past – or rip it apart forever.

This book is amazing! If I hadn’t just put myself on a post YALC book buying ban, I would buy it on publication day! Deena accidentally comes out to her strict Irish Catholic family on her 17th birthday after facing weeks of harassment at school. Her sister informs her that she is now the carrier of the family curse, and her life is about to go wrong. This coupled with Mandy’s disappearance (which hasn’t even happened yet) makes this book one that will be full of mystery and adventure!

Bad apples don’t have a history, they don’t have roots. They just sit in the grass where they fell, rotting alone.

The characters in this sampler are incredibly interesting with many skeletons (or rotten apples) in their closest, that are about to fall out! While I don’t normally go for contemporary books, the politics in this story and the mystery make it a real page turner even for me!

Love It or Leave It?

I love this book, and will be buying it as soon as my ban has been lifted!
