Nevernight Episode 1 “Firsts” Review

So, it’s out in the world now, the new adaptation of Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and adapted by Piera Ford. I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings on this dark tale.

To start off with, the opening flashback animated sequence is beautifully drawn. Although I was worried that the whole thing was going to be animated, and we wouldn’t get to see any of the amazing costumes seen in the trailer. I hope that we get to see more of this animation style in the future.

After the title card, we see the amazing live action part of the video. We are cut between two scenes, Mia’s first kill and her first time having sex, which is true to how it is written in the books. The details are incredible, with the gravebone dagger being really well made.

We also get a glimpse of Mister Kindly, who I thought was very well animated for the shadow not-cat. I am looking forward to how he is created in future episodes.

Once all the fun and games are over, we get to see Mercurio, though sadly no Mercurio’s Curios, hopefully though, that will come later.

I think that this episode was really well made, and I am looking forward to the next one. I only wish that each episode was longer, as at this rate it is going to take forever for the whole trilogy to be adapted! Keep a look out for my thoughts on the next episode soon!
